HOW DOES THE FISHING WORK?

The Walleye have become abundant and the Perch have become scarce. So come fish for walleye and perch on the same trip this year. Just bring your rods and bait for both fish and enjoy!

You will be taken out to productive walleye fishing grounds where the boat will be turned broadside to the wind and allowed to drift. The crew will provide instructions on how to fish for walleye to avoid tangling with other fishermen. Generally speaking, the downwind side of the boat uses heavier sinkers and the upwind side uses lighter weight. This keeps a separation in the lines.

The Captain will inform everyone aboard the depth he sees the fish on the sonar and make suggestions on how to present your baits.

This is a do it yourself fishing experience. You will have the rod in your hand and experience the bite, finesses the fish into taking your lure, setting the hook, and playing the fish to the boat. Obviously your ability to do the aforementioned (and how hungry the walleye are) will determine how successful you are. The crew will be very happy to answer any questions you may have.

We will assist you in netting fish. You do not need to bring your own landing net. There are several on board. Once you hook a fish, let the mate know you will be in need of assistance. Sometimes throughout the season, the weather is unpredictable and the trips are cancelled at the dock.

  • COOLER OR BUCKET with ice.

  • BAIT: Live Emerald Shiners-at LEAST 2 DOZEN per person is recommended.  If the baits shops are out of them, then maybe get the following:

    • 3)Goldies / or other available bait

    • 2)Salted Emerald Shiners

    • 1)Frozen Emerald Shiners

  • FISHING ROD (limit 2) or rent one of ours for $5.  We use a Medium action rod, 20lb braided line, 1 1/2oz inline sinker, (2) #4 hooks.  Some people refer to these as vertical crappy rigs.

  • FOOD and DRINKS for yourself.  Beer is allowed.  No hard liquor-no glass bottles.

  • DRAMAMINE is recommended the evening before the trip, and then another dose right before the trip if you think you might be sick. The waves will rock the boat from side to side when anchored.

FOR WALLEYE

  • OHIO FISHING LICENSE (not necessary if age 15 and under)

    • PURCHASE ONLINE: Click HERE

    • Snug Harbor Bait & Tackle  (440-593-3755) 1021 Broad Street, Conneaut, OH 44030

  • COOLER (with ice) large enough to accommodate your catch. A 40 quart cooler can handle a couple limits of fish and fits under the benches (16”high).

  • BAIT:  Each fisherman should bring at least 2 dozen night crawlers. Some folks may choose to bring minnows as well. Either way, it is up to the customer to furnish their own bait. There are several bait shops on the way into the marina.

  • RODS: You may either choose to bring your own equipment or use one of ours for free. Ours include one rig. If you lose a rig, you will be provided another at a very reasonable cost.

  • TACKLE (recommended): medium-medium light action rod 5 ½ to 7’ is ideal. Whether spinning or level wind, 8-12 lb test monofilament or braided line will do the job. We use Colorado blade (size 3 or 4) worm harnesses. Some folks like to use Erie Deeries, bottom bouncers, or blade baits such as sonars or cicadas (tipped with minnows) and a variety is always good to bring along. Our rigs on the boat consist of an inline sinker (from 1oz to 3oz) with a 5’ fluorocarbon leader in 10-12 lb test, followed by a single Colorado spinner in a variety of colors. The best colors include gold, chartreuse, orange/gold, copper, and combinations including pink.
